History of Alpha Eta

  • In March of 1929 a group of twelve women from Dalhousie decided to form the Kappa Kappa Sigma sorority, announcing their existence in The Gazette. In the following year the girls had recruited seven new members.  Soon after, Alpha Gamma Delta found out about Kappa Kappa Sigma (КК∑) and Lorna Wilson Brigden from the Tau chapter in Toronto paid them a visit. Before Ms. Brigden returned to Toronto, the ladies of Kappa Kappa Sigma decided that they wanted to become a chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta. Following a year of organization and guidance from other chapters, the chapter’s charter was granted in the spring of 1931.

Finally on February 12th, 1932 the sixteen women of Kappa Kappa Sigma sorority became the first women of Alpha Eta Chapter, the fifth Canadian chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta.
